Mr. Baseball, one of the greatest outfielders to ever put on baseball spikes, Ken Griffey Jr. retired Wednesday night. He told the Mariners organization he was threw playing.
He was hitting only .184 with no homers and seven RBI's this year, to go along with the report of him supposedly falling asleep in the clubhouse when he had the opportunity to pinch hit.
But "Junior" has deep resume for Cooperstown:
13 Time All-Star
Fifth with 630 HR's on all time list
11 Gold Gloves
Played 22 seasons, one with the Southsiders, going out with a.284 career average and 1,216 RBI's
I call him the greatest player I have ever seen play, even with all the injuries, he brought excitement on defense and hitting, and who can forget his swing. They called him The Kid, remember how use to stare at the ball when he knew it was gone then slowly starting to jog to first. Griffey was bananas with it.
